getting violent

When I clean, it usually starts with a simple task and then snowballs from there. Like today, I had a bit of pent up animosity so I decided to take it out on the huge pile of empty boxes overflowing my front porch. Armed with a butterknife, I slashed through ridiculous amounts of duck tape. Then I piled them all together and collected the donate items, swept the porch, set up my plant area, and ended up outside pulling weeds, repotting plants, and mowing the grass. It was awesome. Now the yard looks much nicer and I can actually sit on my front porch. Yay!

Downsides, I might have poison ivy. I’m not really that good at IDing plants and while I was pulling up baby maple trees I did accidentally wrench a plant with a red stem out of the ground. I mean, I would have yanked it out anyway but I would have worn gloves. I guess we’ll see.

I’m still feeling kind of antsy, actually. Maybe I should start unboxing my office. =\

Meh… later. That’ll involve filing and filing requires pepsi. I have some standards.

where do we go from here

The people of New Year City and the rest of US have their justice.

Obama has his rallying cry.

Now what.

statueCan our people come home? Is it too soon? Is there someone else? Will there be another war card pulled like Iraq? Are we done sticking our fingers in the Middle Eastern world, messing with their politics by fueling dictator puppets with money?

I know we have a vested interest in World Peace. Every year dozens of bimbos proclaim it as they prance across Donald Trumps stage in their quest for a tiara. But what does it actually take to acquire peace, the ultimate prize?

Do we need to cut off money to Israel, as they build barriers and destroy the families of Palestinians? Do we need to pull out of the Middle East all together and let Europe and Asia handle that business. I like to think that China would prevent Pakistan or North Korea from acting too crazy, given how close they are to their borders.

Are we done acting like world police? Because while I hate the thought of people dying in need of our support like they are in Somalia, Tibet, Libya, and elsewhere, I feel like the rest of the 1st world countries need to fucking help out too. They are protecting their own interests, why can’t we?

Excuse me for sounding selfish, but large parts of America are broken. Corporations and monopolies are running rampant on Capital Hill, giving themselves tax breaks while hacking apart social services and all the while the right wing is yelping about how all the Muslims want to kill us. No fucking shit. We’ve been funneling money into different dictators for decades. We built Saddam Hussein, giving him power, money, and weapons.

And we wonder why they hate us?

I’m ashamed of every American who rejoiced when Osama died and failed to see that as a country, our predecessors brought this on us. They dragged it to our doorstep by trying to play with the politics of multiple nations in the name of oil.

We need to clean from within. We need to stop spending our tax money on other countries and we need to surgically cleanse our congress and all those damned corporate lobbyists. They’ve got us by the rope, but no one sees it because we’re so busy looking beyond our own borders. Just like they want us to.

probably reblogged by your cat too

“I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
– Martin Luther King, Jr.

pocket full of sunshine

marigold

It seems like every yard or scrap of grass in this state is covered with the glow of marigolds dandelions. Heh. But they’re so merry!

marigold bouquet

Lucky for me, Jas is always picking bouquets of them for us. Most homeowners like when she visits too. She’s the most enthusiastic weed plucker you can find, as long as it has a pretty flower on top.

marigold collection

I had to give her flowers a special burial a few mornings ago. She was so upset at the shriveled appearance of her dandelions. I told her once it stops raining, she can pick some more.

I wish these sunny days would come back soon! We had the good fortune to be out and about on the one nice day amongst two weeks worth of rain. But at least we don’t have tornadoes whipping through yet. And unless the flooding gets too crazy, I’ll be able to avoid that too. Sunny side to everything. Even weeds.

this is what happens when you procrastinate about doing javascript homework

The latest WordPress update broke the shit out of my old theme, carefully modified and nitpicked from ages ago. Alas. Temp stuff until finals are over. Or at least, until I decide that I need sufficient distraction. I don’t think my grades can get much worse anyway.
