For those of you curious on the art of making chess pieces

Last night since I had a bit of free time, I decided to do a video blog. Unfortunately, since I was sitting down in one place for more than a minute, Sunny decided to careen into my lap. But to get to my lap, he had to smash through the spindly little webcam. Smash he did. The very first take I did, he crawled up into the chair and artfully pressed stop with his toes while I was petting him and talking about how he has started to use emotional bullying towards Kayla. This cat did not want the story to hit the interwebs because he interrupted the next two attempts that I did.

Anyway, just as I was about to call it quits and turn off the laptop, Andy comes strolling upstairs with two chess pieces that he’s carved and is gabbing away about the new toy I bought him for Christmas. It’s a fancy Dremel that came with loads of attachments, a carving tool. He’s always been interested in wood working and carved a few chess pieces with a carving set that he’s had for years. The Dremel was something he’s been drooling over for a few months now.

On Black Friday, I had him go purchase his gift seeing as how I had to work and we both figured that he might be able to get a deal. No dice on that, but ever since he was been tinkering with his new toy and at the mention of putting it away underneath the tree he gets amazingly defensive.

So he was going on and on about how he did all this carving when I decided that as his penance for playing with his Christmas gift before Christmas, he had to explain to the webcam exactly what he was doing. Besides, it made his longwinded explanations much more bearable for me although I’m not sure why. The second go around of hearing it all was much funnier than the first.

Anyway, here is the video… and you’ll probably have to turn the sound up because the settings were all wonky on the laptop.

I imagine that soon we’ll have an entire collection of chubby pawns littering Andy’s office.

Fun fact time

- My eyes change color from brown to green depending on my mood, the temperature, barometric pressure, and their own agenda.
– This will be the second winter we’ve owned our washer and dryer.
– Two winters ago, Andy used to carry our laundry two houses down to do laundry. Through the snow. He did so without complaint. Or help.
– It’s been a year since I put Caitlin to sleep and I still miss her.
– Her urn is on my mantel in the downstairs bedroom.
– I wanted to bury it underneath some white morning glories and moon flowers so that she’d have pretty flowers day and night on her grave site. I just haven’t got a chance to grow them yet.
– Caitlin was the cat who moved out here with me, wore baby dresses, and played chess with me for roughly sixteen years. She was a great cat.
– She was featured in a lot of home made videos of mine, but this is the best.
– On Friday, it will have been two years since the most dramatic night of my existence. Little Jasbaz will be turning two.
– We have a bunch of Carebear books hidden in the top of our closet to give her for her birthday.
– Andy plays in a pool league on Tuesday nights. I surf Youtube looking for Gossip Girl clips on Tuesday nights. And check in on The Legend of the Seeker.
– Andy and I are both APPALLED and DISGUSTED with The Legend of the Seeker. They assraped our favorite series. But we both secretly love to watch it and derail all the problems and book plot shredding.
– Andy has been planning on writing a screenplay on the books and then making a movie. I told him to do it anyway. Die hard fans have to be grouchy about the TV series too.
– I wear scarves all day long to keep my neck warm so that I won’t get sick.
– So far it’s working.
– Those brownies I made on Saturday got burnt because I accidentally turned the temp up to 450 and left them in for ten minutes. I was just trying to bump it up from 300 and turned it too far.
– The last time Andy cleaned the stove, he soaked the knobs to help get the grease off and the sticker cover on our oven knob came off.
– I called several parts dealers online and no one had the sticker or a knob with a similar dial.
– So we’ve been cooking with one of those dangling oven thermometers.
– So when I realized that the brownies were burnt around the edges, I said ‘fuck it’ and mentally made a note to pick out the brownies in the center to eat.
– Spell check always, always saves me from spelling accidentally wrong.
– Our stove was made in the 1950′s and is maroon.
– It always makes me nervous when Andy cooks with the oven because he always tends to forget to turn it off. I’m always turning it off behind him.
– We have two aprons hanging up in our kitchen but neither of us ever wear one while we’re cooking. Or ever really. They just hang out on the hook.
– The last two weeks we’ve been late for church by twenty minutes and turned around to go home because Andy doesn’t want to go in late. Apparently everyone will turn around and look at you weird. He’s been embarrassed before, I’m guessing.
– Last night I watched a video on Youtube with a lady putting on makeup replicating Amy Lee’s look. She had the most adorable Scottish accent. I watched the video just to listen to her talk because it was so amusing.
– I wonder if she’d think my accent is amusing.
– Probably not. I sound like… a typical American. Although I can speak with a Spanish accent if I actively think about it.
– When my dad first bought me the webcam to take out to IL with me (so that we could SEE each other while talking on the phone), he made a few videos and left them on my computer. I uploaded this one because it always sends me into stitches watching it. The others are hilarious too, but this one is the best.
– Andy doesn’t think they are nearly as amusing as I do. So if you don’t, it’s okay.
– It’s a Tuesday, at 2:07pm. And I have run out of things to chat about.
– Time for Runescape.

New Developments

Jasbaz has successfully peed on the potty. And the best part of it all, was that she let ME know that she needed to go by saying “Yucky” and pointing to the bathroom. So we hurried into the bathroom, sat her on the toilet (regular with a toddler cushion adapter), and while I read her a short story, she tinkled away. =D

VICTORY!

Also, in related news, Gigi bought us a kids potty type of potty. So now Jas is kind of confused and spent a good bit of tonight carrying her new potty around the house. =| Lol. Proves me right though, in that she thinks they are a new type of toy. I’m tempted to just put it upstairs for now so that she doesn’t get confused seeing as how we already have her started on a regular potty. I guess we’ll see how it goes.

And for anyone with free time who wants to hear a good chunk of Jas’s vocabulary, I have just the video for you all. But before you view it, you have to promise to ignore the laundry basket in the background. x.x Okay, well then. Onto Jas saying random English words…

Mom, you are WELCOME!

And I don’t know why the audio is so crackly, but… whatevs.

We do this in the car too and sometimes grocery stores

Don’t be jealous. We were watching Celtic Women perform Over The Rainbow on youbtube and… well, the moment needed to be recorded. And shared.

Yay for rootbeer floats

Whenever Youtube finishes processing, I have a video to share.

Monday night, we decided to go out to eat and Andy always ALWAYS – without fail – orders some sort of shake or float or foamy concoction. On that night, he wanted a rootbeer float. It was a big one too, with a frosted glass and everything.

Naturally, Jasbaz wanted some too. She had some and enjoyed it in a well I’m not sure about this but I’m going to insist on having some anyway because you are eating it and I want to be just like you type of way. This video was filmed via my camera phone, hence it’s crap quality, after she’d already had a few bites.

My theory is that brain freeze struck. And you can’t hear the low growl that she made toward the end because I’m laughing too hard. And my laugh is retarded. Just so’s you know. Beware!

But that moment definitely made the entire night worth it.

And here we go:

And if that doesn’t work, click here. Or not. Free country and all that. =D
