v for victory

I had steak for breakfast.

It was awesome. Granted, it was leftovers from last nights dinner but the idea is still the same. Steak with green beans and mushrooms. Yum! An awesome start to a birthday.

Andy is determined to buy me something for my birthday but keeps getting irritated when I buy things that I’ve told him I want. For months I’d told him that I wanted the Berlitz Self Primer for Italian and then I bought it a few weeks ago. Along with a battery charger, two maxi dresses (a black one and a purple one since the teal was sold out of my size)(I don’t like wearing them in public though because my boobs are like HELLO LOOK AT US and try to greet strangers)(the dresses are totally comfortable though and I love to lounge around the house in them), some little moleskin notebooks I wanted for my language practice, and the spanish book I’ve been looking at. But these are all items I’ve been wanting for quite some time. I was just waiting on the funds.

The only two things I’ve wanted that I haven’t bought for myself (I ran out of spending money) were a beginners henna set and a proper coin skirt for my bellydancing (although I have been tempted to add a yoga mat to my list of things that I’d like). I’ve got my fingers crossed that he’s thinking of getting one of those for me. Likely he’s thought up something completely different though.

Hrm. I still haven’t stitched together my skirt but I am totally going to do it tonight. I think. =) And I plan on tea dying it since I gave away the tie dye mix we had to a friend for a birthday gift (worst idea ever since I’m pretty sure they threw it away). Tea dye info! Tie dye info!

Also, many thanks to my lovely parents for bringing me into this world twenty two years ago. I like to think you both did a good job. ;) You know, aside from all the waterboarding. But you can’t even tell now. *twitches*

ahh wednesday

I put on my blue toenail polish again this morning. I have to do the second coat when I get home. I seriously love this color.

Also this morning, I commandeered one of our old white sheets and cut it to wrap skirt size pieces. Hopefully tonight I can figure out how to sew it together properly. It shouldn’t be too difficult but on the pattern it specifies making holes for where the band goes through but then when you sew the skirt to the waistband, there is no spot where you can see the holes. I’m so lost. We’ll see how it goes.

I just learned what basting was. When I read it on the instructions the only thing I could think of is when you cook a turkey, but I’ve never done that either. Apparently though its where you stitch something then take it back out and restitch it later. I figure I’ll just not baste and leave the space open until its time to resew. Then if that doesn’t work, I’ll know for next time.

And let’s have a moment of silence for the documented evidence of the ONE rose bush of mine that was actually growing and sprouting leaves when Andy ran over it with the lawnmower a few weeks ago.

Thank goodness I have a little spending money to buy some bricks to line out the rest of my flower beds because if he mows over my marigolds, well… I just don’t want to think about that. I might not be able to take responsibility for my actions. Especially since they’ll be fueled with extra progesterone.

meh

About a week ago I successfully used a pattern, cut out a dress, sewed a dress and that was as far as I was able to get since Jasbaz point blank REFUSED to put it on. Talk about a letdown. I’ve been planning this moment since before her birth (making her an article of clothing and having her wear it, even for a few seconds) and I must say that it did not go how I planned. But it was hilarious in a disappointing way.

I’ve gotten wise to her though. I know exactly how I’m going to get her to wear the next item I make. I’m going to make sure Bella or Dora is on it. FYI: Bella is her name for Cinderella, one of her favorite princesses despite the fact that she’s never seen the movie. She loves Ariel too, but I think we could use more Bella in our life.

In looking at our local fabric stores, most do not have proper cotton fabric featuring princesses, which is probably for the best. I figure that if I can find an inexpensive sheet set, then I can improvise from there.

A Letter to Erin

Enclosed are links to places you found that you want to print out and rearrange later. But Allah forbid something happen to your bookmarks, so here you go.

a little fireball I'm thinking

So, I had my sono yesterday and among other things we found out that I’m going to be having a cheeky boy. How do I know this? While we were having the sonogram, my doctor prodded at him with the wand thing to get him to turn over so we could see his face and the little guy flipped around and mooned the doctor. Hilarious!

Also we got to see him squirming around all over the place which explains all the times when I’ve had to grab a chair because my abdomen is rocking like a ship in the middle of a hurricane. My doctor joked that we need to get this boy some Ritalin. He also said that we don’t need to visit with him anymore (he’s a specialist) since the baby is developing just fine. Yay.

(This shirt and my awful Italian grandma posture make me look pregnanter than I am but not by much — complements of my camera phone)

I find it ironic that this little one would be a boy when I’ve been diligently saving all of Jasbaz’s clothes so that we can reuse them later. We’ve got a couple of gender neutral clothes but for the most part all the clothes under 1 year are pink, frilly, and ultra feminine. We got them all at my baby shower and it doesn’t matter how many times you point out that she has a sea of pink in her dressers already, the only clothes relatives will buy you are going to be pink.

Now I’m afraid we’re going to end up with a shitload of blue clothes with dump trucks on them. I’m really going to have to break out my sewing machine and start learning how to make clothes for real.

This baby is going to live in tye dye. =) And hawaiian shirts if I can find appropriate fabric. I bet there should be tons in the local thrift stores. How badass would that be? A three month old baby wearing the most eccentric tshirt or baby bag? Yeah, definitely incentive for me to actually finish getting basic sewing supplies and start practicing.

Also, I want to buy some really neat prints to make babybags out of that have dragons on them or tribal prints so if any of you craftier people have really nice places to visit online that sell neat fabrics not found in JoAnn’s, please let me know. Actually, any stores that sell really cool fabrics would be great.

And I have two more pregnanty type questions while we’re at it…

#1 – Is it considered in bad taste to have a second baby shower if the second baby is a different gender? I mean, we have all the big necessities still like baby carriers, a bouncer, a stroller, crib, etc… but it would be nice to get a bunch of clothes and diapers and that. I guess we’ll leave it up to fate since technically, I’m not supposed to plan it anyway. I remember last time I left everything up to my aunt and gramma and they did a fabulous job organizing it.

#2 – What is your personal opinion on circumcision and what websites can you cite to back up your feelings (if applicable — like if your reason is medically based)? Please, be honest and as long winded as you like because I really am totally clueless on this subject and want to fully study each variant of the issue. And if it seems like most of the responses fall one way, feel free to play Devil’s Advocate. ;)

And as far as names go, we each get to pick one name and then based on how they sound together will determine which one is his first name and which is his middle name. I’ve already got my picked out and I think Andy is leaning towards Esau. He wants a biblical name so I suggested Shadraq or Mishaq because I knew my mom would love it (even though she turned us off Nikolas because THAT’S THE NAME OF THE DEVIL ERIN!)(although technically so is Samael which is way close to Samuel). Plus I keep picturing the look on his mom or sisters face when we reveal the name and that in itself is worth a million dollars.
