short rambles

I’ve been spending too much time admiring the pretty hairpieces by HeadCase. Love love love. For my birthday, I’m getting myself one. I’ve already decided.

Other than drooling on etsy, I’ve spent a significant amount of time coloring my Anatomy Student’s Self Test Coloring Book. I got it yesterday while I was picking up books for my classes. None of which are Anatomy, mind you, but I was looking for a new coloring book anyway.

Really though, I’ve been more curious about anatomy after finding out that my body is built a little different than others. I purposely avoided signing up for the class in high school because one of the assignments was dissecting a cat and I would really like to go through the experience of life without dissecting any corpses. Plus the smell of the formaldehyde. Ugh, just gross. I opted for physics instead.

Oddly enough the rooms for the classes were right next to each other and share a lab in between, with both doors featuring glass windows. So we ended up seeing a few dead cats too.

Corpses aside, I really like it (the coloring book) and am working on coloring in a cell. Why stop learning, ever? Although I did tell someone that I signed up for an anatomy class just because it seemed like the easiest answer. “It’s for school” is a very simple refrain that excuses a lot of behavior. Really, try it. It’s amazing the things people will tell you about when you ask questions and reference it as being for a project.

Anyhow, I need to get ready for a busy weekend. I plan on attending a number of Memorial day events, which will be a first. I’m making up for lost time.

shy pepper

One of my pepper plants is busy BUILDING ME FOOD! Yay! I’m so excited about this. I wonder how the plant will hold up when all the baby peppers are a bigger size.

My cucumbers are all viny and leafy but no baby cucumbers are in sight. Maybe later.

Still. It’s really exciting watching everything grow day by day. Even if I have to keep picking out obstinate little maple tree babies.

If anyone wants a maple tree, ever, you just let me know. I can send a box of plucky little bastards guaranteed to sprout up to the heavens. I should know since they are all trying to flourish in my flower beds. Every few days I have to yank them out so they’ll stop bullying my pretties.

my little sunshine

He’s started teething. For the better part of the weekend, my knuckles spent their time being ground into powder by his desperate jaws. Slobber, I has it. Poor little guy.

It’s got to be hard being that small and all the sudden your little mouth hurts and you have no idea why. Also, I discovered why people gave their babies scotch to help with the teething. Because you know the mom was totally topping it off and had a weird moment of morbid curiosity. Voila, quiet baby!

For the record, Cody and I have not resorted to liquor. I find chocolate and buffalo wings to be more helpful in times of crisis. But that is the number one tip I’ve gotten when talking to people about teething. Get the baby tipsy.

Kind of explains the state of things in this country, doesn’t it?

an accomplishment in the making

More chalk

I just finished creating my first photobook on snapfish. It’s full of family pictures from April 2008 (when we bought our house) until January 2010 (ending on a marriage seemed appropriate). And seeing as how every good book needs a title, I call it “Putting Down Roots”. Funny thing is that it has 100 pages and will cost about $120 a book. I need four. Not counting if pesky relatives want copies, which I’m sure they will once they paw through one.

The reasoning behind having four is that when our little kidlets grow up and attempt to escape, I’m sure they’ll want pictures of this time frame. And instead of just pictures, they’ll get a yearbook full of scribbles and notes by family members. Way better than a scrapbook which could fall apart. This you can use to prop up a table with!

Well, I’m assuming you can anyway. I’ll have to wait until October to get them printed to find out. Just in time for Christmas!

I’m so glad that I’ve finally gotten it put together though. I’ve been meaning to make up one for ages. I’ve already come up with a title for the second one I’m making, On A Magic Carpet Ride.

all for the spark

I’m not up on all the cool net lingo, but where did the slang lame sauce come from? All the sauce. I’m so confused. What is your origin, sauce?

Glee’s episode ‘Dream On’ has a flash mob sing-a-long. Also known as, one of the best things ever. Which reminds me of this one courtesy of Belgium. This is what the internet was made for.

Sure it may have started because us Americans are paranoid sumbitches, but THIS is what it is meant for. Bringing joy to those of us stuck at a desk when it is raining outside. Impromptu song and dance.

Random updates:

  • Still no response from the professor even though I sent a follow up email. Um.
  • The Jas is adapting well to the diaper/pull up fatwa
  • Speaking of Gossip Girl references, I am wearing a head scarf today a la SvdW. It is perfect for rushed mornings when there isn’t time to shower. Covers the roots, keeps the hair back, and adds a nice pop of color.
  • At work we’ve been getting even more inventive scammers calling in. Plucky little bastards.
  • Yesterday I went and helped set up a basic template in Dreamweaver. They like it, simple as it is. Plus the lady I trained is doing pretty well filling in the rest. We accomplished a LOT in two and a half hours.
  • People came in while we were working and kept asking what I did (secretary of doom). And they asked why I started doing this, and when. Yeh gods, almost ten years ago. Plus I was wearing my geekeh glasses. I felt like such a geek. But a valuable and appreciated one. So it’s all cool because if there is one thing I treasure, it’s feeling appreciated.
  • Back when I was an intern for city hall, I did in person tutorials on building websites and I really enjoyed it. I forgot how much until yesterday. Maybe once I get my degree I’ll start doing that. Not in a classroom, but for hire to local businesses. The best part is when you’ve finished and you can tell that the information has clicked. Their eyes light up and you can tell they are thinking about what else they can do with this new knowledge. That is worth more than gold. I’d have to come up with a nice title for the position. And perhaps work out some sort of discount agreement for purchasing programs. Rather than be paid hourly, I could have a set rate for instruction by program based on skill level…
  • This reminds me that I still have to record my podcast on making a podcast. But I want to figure out some sort of jingle to use with it.
  • Which reminds me that the batteries in the piano (technically a keyboard but when I think keyboard I think… not a musical one) are dead and need to be recharged. I need to just purchase a replacement charger (7 volts, if I remember correctly) for it. Jas has a habit of turning it on, playing, and then wandering off.
  • Today is a good day for knitting. Or curling up on the couch and sleeping. But seeing as how I’m at work, I’ll settle for reading hilarious quotes from Archer.
