preparations, although in my book they call it "nesting"

  • I get to pick up my rain barrel Friday. Yay! The shipment just came in and I am serially excited. The trick will be picking up Jas and making it across town in under an hour with all the excessive traffic.

Our city has decided to do construction on every single major road and it is obnoxious. Too many people.

  • Andy and I have decided to switch Jas’s bedroom and the office. I’ve been thinking about how much we use each room, the sizes, and quality of time. We spend a majority of our free time in the office which is also the smallest room in the house. And when one of us is in there, the rest of us tend to gravitate in that direction.

Jas’s room however, is double the size of the office and has more outlets, not to mention the fact that the only time she is in there is when she is unconscious. It just doesn’t seem practical for us to be all shoved like sardines in one room when the one right next to it would be better suited.

I already moved as much furniture as I could but the rest will have to be done when he gets home. As it is I’m likely to be reprimanded for moving something heavier than a laundry basket. This is good on one hand because he cares and wants to make sure I don’t do anything crazy to make the baby decide to vacate my presence early, but also obnoxious because the man does not do things promptly when I tell ask him to do so. Some things are just easier to accomplish by yourself. Being bossy and impatient makes pregnancy complicated.

  • Andy has successfully rewired an outlet so that we can use our electric stove. Hurray! Let the baking commence! Except that the gas stove is sitting in the middle of our kitchen and needs to be extracted, while the electric stove is sitting in our garage needing to be cleaned off and shoved into the house. This will be interesting since the most help I can provide will be holding the door and giving Andy unsolicited advice.
  • One of my most awesome high school friends has moved in state (can I get an amen? oh yes) and is coming down for the weekend. I am so excited! And stressed because… you know… I want our house to look like one from a page out of Better Homes and Gardens but Andy does not move near as fast or as efficiently as is necessary for this to be possible.
  • Our guest bedroom is in shambles seeing as how when we had plumbing problems in our bathroom, water was pouring down into our basement one wall away from the guest bed. So now some variety of mildew or mold has taken hold of the mattress and box spring. =\ Gross. The box spring was broken anyway but not noticeable unless you were engaged in vigorous exercise.

Well, the whole room needed reworked anyway because Andy’s still got boxes and things from when his office was down there, so I guess it works out for the best. But still. Now I’m debating whether we buy a new bedset for down there or wait until we renovate the attic. No sense in getting a new set if it might become susceptible to yuck. Plus there’s that issue of money to spare which we have not, at least not for something that would be very rarely used.

  • I’m trying to plan what I want to plant in our front garden. It’s mostly all shade so I figure we’d stick to plants that thrive in shade or partial shade but I’m out of ideas. I don’t want to use the same kind as what I’m going to be planting in the backyard semi-shade garden (columbine, ferns, and summat else that I can’t remember the name of).

Do lilacs grow in mostly shade? Because I’d LOVE to have a lilac bush/tree in the front yard. Hrm. I’d also like a crape myrtle but I’m not sure whether they can grow up here happily or not, I haven’t seen any in other yards.

Damn, I just checked the wiki and they grow in zones 6 and warmer. Figures. And lilacs want full sun. I’ll have to call some local nurseries and see what they suggest.
