random splatters of thought

Today I used my last Frank Sinatra stamp. =( But I placed an order through the USPS to get some more because after looking through the stamps available, he was still the best. And now I have more of an attachment to him than ever because I’m reading a biography on Ava Gardner. <3 her. In a Scarlett O’Hara kind of way.

Holy cats, her life is even more exciting than mine! And mine is pretty topsy turvey as it is.

Anyway… I’m not sure where I was going with this. Oh yeah… I might end up trying to make these this weekend because I spent a good bit of the morning drooling over the pictures.

moonflowers!

These are my moonflowers, about a week ago. They are growing. GROWING!

either foxglove or columbine seedlings

And lastly we have either foxglove or columbine seedlings. =) They are getting taller now and I need to break them up. And my other two “mystery rows” are starting to sprout too. Eventually I’ll be able to tell the two apart. Like, when they bloom.

phear my skillz

I made a skirt yesterday!! I followed this pattern and holy cats was there a lot of extra fabric. This woman doesn’t mess around. I made mine a bit shorter than the ones in the picture though. And since it was made with a pretty chiffon fabric, I need to make an underskirt. Hence no direct picture of the prettiness.

The picture I did take, for my 12 Project: February, focused on some of my large spare pieces. I got all wound up like a mummy with a headscarf.

I’m tempted to just sew them all together for an extra under layer for some extra coverage. Although I shouldn’t have used black thread! And, as you can tell from the pictures, I wasn’t terribly concerned about the quality of my cuts. This skirt is a prototype!

Next time I buy fabric, I’m going to measure out the sizes for the panels I need and have them cut it at the store for me. And now I really want to make a rainbow skirt like in the tutorial.

It’s super fun to swirl around in. Now I want to make another! Although I will confess, when I made the tubing for where elastic or ribbon (will eventually go… when I buy some – I used a string from one of our laundry bags), I had to make some additional holes because I accidentally oversewed right through the tube occasionally. Lol. Won’t do that again!

if bob the builder can do it…

Back in the days when I had access to cable tv, I used to watch a lot of HGTV. And one of my favorite shows was Design on a Dime. Lee Snyder and Kristin Cunningham were awesome, their crews too.

One of the things I liked best about the show would be when they made furniture on the quick. They always made it look simple. You just get a jigsaw saw and away you go off to hip new furniture!

It is due to this, and the fact that people built tables in the olden times without degrees on carpentry, that I’ve decided I want to make my own table.

I mean, my mom built a two story dog house a few summers ago (I helped! I sat on the boards while she sawed them =D) so surely I can craft a table.

And I have a lot of influence in that Andy about fell over laughing when I demanded he build a table for me, so I’ve decided to build my own. When I informed him of this, I think he almost broke a rib from the way he was rolling on the ground. Time to prove him wrong. I love to say I told you so.

I watched him build our bookcase… Knowledge through osmosis!

But really, this morning while I was in the bathtub, I figured it all out. I’m going to build a table. And it shall be grand.

tutto bene?

A few weeks ago I bought myself a small Five Star notebook (the damn things are indestructable) to keep in my purse for jotting down notes, ideas, and lists. A portable little collection. That way I’d stop writing down ideas on Post-it notes and promptly losing them or risking them crumpling up in the bottom of my bag.

Yesterday I filled in several pages worth of Italian and Spanish slang from two different language books filled to the brim with slang. I only picked the ones I thought I’d use.

The reason I got the two books in the first place is because Jasbaz has been learning words at an alarming rate and has started to use the words fuck, shit, and damn in their proper usage. =( Can’t have that!

We aren’t sailors when we speak, but when upset we tend to use words that aren’t normally part of conversation.

Anyway… I thought I’d jot down a few phrases on here, just in case any of you are looking for new vernacular, and to help me remember.

Español:

Todo el asunto está seriamente jodido.

!Ay, no armes un escándolo!

Déjame en paz.

!ándate bien al carajo!

Italiano:

é Pazzo?

Sono innocente

Non posso… mi é venuto il merchese

Non comportarti da baggiano

Porca miseria!

Il fumare é diventato fuori moda.

Any guesses as to translations?? =D

And feel free to leave some enjoyable phrases you know in other languages that might be of use. Or just interesting. Whatevs. I have a lot of empty space in my notebook. =)

oh really now

One of the bad things about buying clothes second hand is that sometimes they react like store bought clothes, in that they haven’t already been shrunk multiple times by going through the dryer. Ergo, major shrinkage. Dratted previous owner who actually air dried their pants!

My new favorite pair of jeans is now my least favorite and will be going back to Goodwill. Because they are cutting off circulation and imprinting creases onto my body. I knew I should have changed before I left for work this morning.

I’ve never had a pair of jeans split down the middle on me before and I really think I’m running dangerously close today. Gah! ={
