Melancholy created out of listlessness

So far the three day weekend has gotten off to a drag. Obviously, since I’m on the computer and it’s a weekend.

Andy had a long day at work and fell asleep in front of the TV watching Phantom of the Opera with Jasbaz. After it finished, he was conked out on the couch, so I put in Meerkat Manor to watch for a bit. After putting Jasbaz to bed, I just left it on. I don’t really know why. Just did.

It clicked off a few minutes ago, so I’ll have to get up and turn it off. Save some electricity anyway.

Otherwise, the only thing of note to happen today was that I set up a blog to write in spanish and that I got a bit of laundry done. Mreh.

Tomorrow, we are going to the park or someplace. Definitely OUT of this house. I love it and all, but after spending an entire day in the house, I’m quite ready to venture out. Boring day. Bleh.

I got to thinking about things and realized that out of all our friends locally that have children, we are the only couple still together. And that is sad. The world grows up too fast and the children suffer. Not that I have regrets or anything, but it makes me realize how hard we have to work to avoid becoming another statistic. A common stereotype. A disgrace.

But then again, I probably don’t need to worry about that when we are as goofy as we are:

Don’t worry, dear, we’ll make it. Because at the end of it all and the beginning, you are there. And you soothe my crazy worries, brush off statistics, and make the corners of my mouth twitch into a smile. Especially the way you are laid out on the sofa snoring away and at peace while I’m letting my mind wander away with me.

Andy

Time for bed, I think. I need some cuddles.

Pizzelle's

Citadel

I just finished a container of these a minute ago. I have no self restraint when it comes to these cookies. They are my favorite and somehow manage to edge out Snickerdoodles, although just by a tiny slice.

The last time I bought them I was going to take pictures of them, but ended up devouring two boxes before I actually broke out the camera. I made sure that didn’t happen this time. I bought two boxes and took pictures of the first box, and then my battery died.

Compass

So to anyone who wants a nice light snack, try the italian cookie, pizzelle. Yum. Andy swears they are good with ice cream, but we had none to try with them. They probably are though.

And for those of you who wonder what salt water taffy looks like, I took a picture of our candy dish which is filled to the brim with them.

Define irony

This is going to sound racist or prejudice or sexist or probably anything ending with “ist” or “ice”. Just an observation that makes me laugh.

At first Democrats had to decide between a black man and a white woman. Republicans had to decide between an old white guy or a middle aged white guy. The black man and the old white guy prevailed.

Now, the black guy has chosen a different old white guy as his running mate. And the old white guy has chosen a white woman as his running mate.

It’s like a swap! Except that now Republicans and Democrats both get to choose between a white woman and a black man, with two old men as side dishes.

And you know what I thought would have been perfect? If Condeleeza Rice would have been McCain’s (original old white guy) running mate. She’s talented with plenty of experience. She’s also both black and female. It would have changed our scenario. Of course, she’s trying to get out of politics and I can’t say I blame her. It’s a sticky business.

As it is, I still have some research to do on both Joe Biden and Sarah Palin before I can make my decision. But I’m very proud of our country for getting this far and breaking glass ceilings. It’s about time.

Drifty brain day

It’s been a nice rainy day so far. Calm and quiet. Not much to do as the phone hasn’t been ringing, although I wish it would. There is nothing worse than being stuck at work and having run out of things to do. If I continue looking at these itty bitty toy confections, my pocketbook is going to get hurt. Seriously, how cute are those things?

Looking at all those tiny toys has got me wanting to go buy one of those big empty dollhouses that art stores sell so that I can decorate it. Fill it with “carpet”, paint the walls, and acquire the wooden pieces of furniture. Paint them. Arrange. Fill with tiny little items. Jasbaz would love it.

But then again, she’d also wreck it because that’s the developmental stage that she’s in. Toys would be swallowed, lost, fall down the furnace vents, or get stuffed into the VCR. Definitely a project that I’d like to do WITH her, but perhaps when she gets older. And speaks more English.

For now, I can plan and scroll through pictures that other people have taken. Like this one, which is cute and makes me hungry. Or this one. And this one too.

Heh. Food. Made tiny. So cute. So yum.

Maybe in the future. I still have to dig out and set up my sewing machine soon. The end of the year is coming swiftly. How is it almost September already? So many things to do with only a quarter of the year left…

Scarf season is coming up. And the little one is going to need a new wardrobe. And a winter coat. The one from last year is much too small for her now. It’s such a lovely shade of powder blue though. It’d be nice if we could find something similar. Or maybe something in green. Bright colors during winter are the best.

Mreh. Phone, please ring.

You should see me play with fire

I might have accidentally melted a plastic cup in the microwave at work. I so did not expect that to happen. I only put it in for two minutes. Our microwave at home? You can put water in there for three minutes and everything is fine.

I think the microwave here is a commercial one or something. Because it seriously shrunk the cup down to midget size and the middle puffed out. Wild!

But the trouble is that I still need hot water and I didn’t want to use the plasticy hot water. Hrm.

If I had my camera with me, I totally would have taken a picture to show off because it’s cute in a short and stout kind of way.
